My Activewear Addiction

I am so behind on my blog posts. This whole going back to work thing? Seriously killing my free time. This was supposed to be posted Wednesday… but oh well. Real life called and wanted my free time back.

Anyway, I’m honestly not quite sure how my activewear addiction came about. I used to just wear a random baggy tee and old shorts from high school to go to yoga class. Then I discovered yoga pants and started wearing them instead. Then, one day, I was introduced to Fabletics… and my activewear collection exploded. I now have more than enough activewear to last me at least two months without laundering them… and I still keep buying more!

But the old adage is true – cute workout clothes make me want to go and work out. I feel guilty when I’m wearing activewear and I don’t actually go workout – buying and wearing all of my activewear tends to force me to head to an exercise class, even if I’m really not in the mood. I tell myself that wearing my activewear and not using it is a complete waste of money, so I might as well go to sweat. Plus, I’d get to show off my cute workout gear, which is always a perk. This is why I’ll sometimes wear a sports bra instead of a regular bra… plus sports bras are just so much more comfortable.

Anyway, to kick off 2017, I bought two activewear outfits – one from Fabletics and one from POPFLEX Active. I’ve been a Fabletics VIP member since 2014 (when I first started a regular yoga practice), so I guess you can say that I’m a fan. If you haven’t heard of Fabletics yet, it’s an activewear brainchild of Kate Hudson and JustFab. So when you subscribe and become a VIP member, you can buy a new activewear outfit for $49-89, depending on how many pieces your outfit has.

I’ve liked almost everything that I’ve ordered from Fabletics, and the quality is actually really good for the price point. I’m a big fan of their leggings and sweat-wicking tops. I originally liked their bras for low-impact classes, like yoga and Pilates, but Fabletics has been coming out with some seriously supportive and affordable sports bras lately – good news for girls with bigger busts, like me.

Fabletics has also always had very cute crop tops – many of which I own. I’ve just never been confident enough to actually wear a crop top in public… but I’m hoping that changes this year. My goal for 2017 was to feel more confident in my body – confident enough to rock a bikini and a crop top in public. Otherwise, all of my bikinis and crop tops will be laying around my apartment… for a very long time (if not forever).

POPFLEX Active, on the other hand, has been a brand that I’ve been wanting to try forever but never actually took the plunge to try – until now. It was started by Pop Pilates queen Cassey Ho, and the lookbooks always looked really great. I was cautious about trying it originally because whenever I looked for a review online, it would be written by a model-sized or an extremely fit female. I’m not model-sized or extremely fit – I wanted to see a “normal person’s” review, and I couldn’t find one. Also, at the time, they only had VIP pricing and I wasn’t a huge fan of the first collection. Then came the “Mermaid” collection and this new “Dark Bloom” collection… and since it was a new year, I decided to try this new brand.

Fabletics Review:

This month, I got the “Lionel” outfit, which consisted of the black Malina Midi Sports Bra and the Lisette High-Waisted Legging in the Pretty Punk print – I ended up swapping the Lisette for the Mist Ombre Print because I didn’t care too much for the Pretty Punk print.

I’ve discovered that I absolutely love high-waisted leggings – and they’re a huge help when it comes to my 2017 resolution to be more confident while wearing crop tops. I normally don’t wear bright colored leggings but these were just so cute that I couldn’t resist buying them. The Lisettes are actually my new favorite Fabletics leggings, but I’ve noticed that my newest pair are just a bit thinner than my very first pair – maybe they’re made of a different material? But I don’t mind – they still pass the squat test, so I’m happy with them.

The Malina Midi Sports Bra, on the other hand, feels more like a crop top with some support rather than a proper sports bra. It’s just not supportive enough for any of my high-intensity workouts, but I would totally wear it to my barre, pilates and yoga classes. In fact, I’d wear the top then just change out of my leggings into a cute skirt for brunch or dinner after class. The mesh prevents the top from being as stretchy as some of my other crop tops, but it’s a really cute detail and helps make the top breathable so it’s not super sticky and sweaty after class.

Overall, I’m quite happy with this outfit. I haven’t worn it yet because I have quite a few other outfits that I’d like to wear first, and I’m also waiting for the weather to get a little nicer before I break out my lighter-colored leggings. But I can’t wait until Spring so I can show these off!

POPFLEX Active Review:

I finally took the plunge and bought some POPFLEX Active clothing at the beginning of the year! I’ve been wanting some of their stuff for the longest time, but as I stated earlier, I’ve been hesitant in buying pieces because I haven’t found many reviews online. In fact, the only tip I found was to really measure your body and size up when it came to the sports bras – so I did. POPFLEX’s customer service was amazing – I wanted to make sure that my order would arrive before I left my parent’s house in Pennsylvania, and they shipped it out once they received my email! The package also arrived really quickly – two days after I got the email that my packaged shipped. Amazing.

The fabric on these pieces is seriously unique – it’s so soft yet so compressive, perfect for my workouts. I can feel why POPFLEX calls the fabric their “moss” fabric – it feels amazing. I went up a size in the sports bras, but the “Set the Bar” bra was still a bit tight and probably a size too small – but because it’s in such a pretty mermaid print and returns are a bit of a hassle, I’ll just keep it. The Criss Crop Top fit perfectly… my only concern is that it shows quite a bit of cleavage. But both bras were super supportive and I can’t wait to wear them to spin and my more intense barre classes.

The Pointe Leggings are AMAZING. I got the Nightfall (black) colored ones, and they contain a mesh detail up to my thigh… and POCKETS. Any pair of leggings with pockets are always a win in my book. Plus, they pass the all-important squat test – I can’t wait to buy more of these leggings in other colorways.

Overall, I’m really happy with my POPFLEX purchase and experience. I can’t wait for the rest of the “Dark Bloom” collection to come out – I’ve been eyeing their new black zip up bra and can’t wait to see what else is in store!

In conclusion (wow I feel like I’m writing a junior high school paper), yes, I buy a LOT of activewear – but I also tend to wear them all… eventually. I like being able to buy new activewear outfits and then going to work out in them just so I can show off my new clothes! I mean, all new outfits make me want to make up an event to show them off. Plus, now that athleisure is in style, I can get away with wearing my gym tops with nice bottoms to work, so I don’t have to carry around my giant gym bag anymore.

Oh, and here’s what I look like in all five pieces… In case you need to see the pieces on a regular body, like I normally do.
